v St Erme (A)

Blake bats through for Victory Century

Boconnoc were welcomed to St Erme by the sight of decent, dry weather which hadn't been the case for the season so far with one abandonment and a cancellation. St Erme had at least got off the mark with a win in a re-arranged game on the proceeding bank holiday Monday.

Boconnoc would bowl first, with Will Geach bowling an expectional spell of seven overs which included three maidens and a wicket. Boconnoc bowled and fielded well throughout the innings and tried to contain whatever the St Erme batsmen would give them. Chris Neville achieved the best figures of the day taking 3 for 21 and leaving his mark on the opposing middle order. Kevin Spencer would bowl with some good control and lovely movement throughout his spell and was rewarded by picking up the wicket of M. Pearson in the final over. Geach and Jon Niblett would pick up two wickets apiece with Ian Hunter getting the other wicket they would get, leaving the home side ending up on 181 for 9 from their full 50 overs.

After tea Boconnoc would open with Micheal Blake and Gary Spencer, unfortunately Gary would depart for a duck but Blake would be there at the end. Niblett (28) had a decent partnership with Blake before being bowled by K. Wilcock. The middle order didn't have any real contribuation expect Hunter (20) who would be caught off his opposing captain in Simon Cole. Kevin Spencer would be at the other end when Blake first got to his century (which featured 10 fours and 2 sixes) and then when the finishing moments were carried out. Jonny Ridd bowled a no ball which was given for height, the ball ballooned up into the sky and was caught, St Erme didn't attempt to go for a run out and Spencer as well as Blake made their ground, the game was finished the next ball with a bye.

The victory based on a good team performance gives Boconnoc their first win of the season at the first proper attempt. This Saturday they host a fellow promoted side from last season in Saltash.
