Spirited side lose out in cup.

Roche v Boconnoc (Davidstow Village Cup 2015 - Area Semi-Final)

The final day in May, sure Boconnoc make the trip over to Roche in the Village Cup. Boconnoc had advanced to this stage after troubled Troon had to concede the game in the previous round. Roche had picked up an easy win after experience very good success in this very competition last season, reaching the last 8.

Ian Hunter had a fantastic start picking up the first wicket at the conclusion of the very first over with Michael Blake taking a catch in the covers. The following partnership would result in being the biggest of the match with the number two and three of Roche taking the score from 4 up to 96. In the field, Boconnoc kept going and trying to chip away at the hosts. Two Roche batsmen C. Rowe and L. Tarbuck both past 50 getting 59 and 53 respectively. There were well watched catches in the deep by Kevin Spencer and Blake but catch of the innings had to of been the one taken by Dave Smith off the bowling of Blake, the ball must of gone parellel to the peak of the nearby Roche Rock and the batsmen nearly could of crossed a second time. There would be three wickets a piece for Jon Niblett and Blake with Hunter getting a brace and Kevin Spencer picking up one wicket alongside that was a simple run out when both batsmen were down at the bowlers end, Niblett threw the ball to keeper Rob Foot who had no trouble whipping off the bails. The more than decent effort from Boconnoc had plugged their hosts back, from what could of been far worse, Roche finished up being all out for 233 when Blake bowled K.Willmott at the start of the 40th over.

Hunter went for the pairing of Foot and Simon Terry at the top of the innings, unfortuanely Terry got a very good ball from R.Clark first up and was bowled. Foot and Smith would try and play postively and got the score on to 28 when Foot (15) was clean bowled. Smith (15) was also bowled. The vice captain and captain had the best partnership of the innings as Hunter dispatched numerous balls to the boundary on his way to 44. Niblett (22) would go to a good catch in the deep after the fielder had cover a decent amount of ground. Keith Sturgess and Kevin Spencer combined to pick off a few singles around the park but in the end after a spirited and positive performance the damage had been done and Boconnoc were eventually all out for 158 with Chris Neville being the not out batsman on 2 at the end.
