History

Queen Victoria had been on the throne for only nine years when Boconnoc Cricket Club was formed in 1846 and the club have been playing at the picturesque Deer Park, which lays claim to being the longest continuous use of any cricket ground in Cornwall, ever since.

For a time in the club's early history the whole of the side came from within the estate, obviously in those days there were more employees of the estate and on the nearby farms.

The leading wicket taker of all time in the club, Bernard Libby, 1683 career league wickets, who played for Boconnoc for a number of years. Unfortunately, an actual number of his victims on a Saturday afternoon can not be confirmed as a number of scorebooks fell victim to a fire at a previous secretary's house.

On the batting side of things, two double centuries have been scored by a Boconnoc batsman and both were scored by the same player, Michael Blake who scored 209no against Ladock in 2006 and then the next season scored 230no at home to Tintagel.

In 2001, the club sadly had to play all of its games away from home due to Foot and Mouth disease. Recent history has seen the club spend most of the 21st century in Division 3 East with two seasons in the league above after gaining promotion at the end of the 2009 season they had a good season finishing 6th in Division 2 East before being relegated the next season. The 2nd XI have since the turn of the century spent most of it's time in Division 6 East.

Below are some of our more recent final League positions. The club has been involved in the Cornwall Cricket League for more than 60 seasons since it first joined the League in the 1930 season.

The 1990 season saw the 2nd XI go unbeaten finishing up with analysis of Played 20, Won 18 and Drawn 2, this came when they were playing in Division 7 East.

Boconnoc haven't entered a cup competition for a couple of years now but our recent 'cup adventures' came in the Rosevear Twenty20 Cup where we made it to the Finals Day on both of the occasions when we entered getting knocked out in the Semi Finals after progressing by winning our group.

In 2004, Boconnoc would reach the final of the Jolly's Drinks Complementry Cup where they played Long Rock. On their way to the final they would beat Stoke Climsland, Liskeard and South Petherwin. The final would be curtailed by rain which lead to a bowl-out which out of five attempts Long Rock would win 2-0 that all came after an earlier batting effort by Boconnoc which saw them get a score of 238-3 (40 overs) thanks to runs from Strugess, Geach, Blake and Niblett.
